Blue Eagles FC have recalled their captain Schumacher Kuwali from suspension ahead of their crunchy TNM Super League clash against fellow Lilongwe-based giants Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium this Sunday.

Both the club’s vice-chairperson Ian Mwalungila and the player confirmed the development in separate interviews yesterday.

Two weeks ago, the Malawi Police Service (MPS) side meted out an indefinite suspension on the captain for his conduct towards fellow team-mates and the technical panel.

But yesterday Mwalungila said they have decided to recall him and he is eligible for selection.

Has welcomed decision: Kuwali

“We believe Kuwali has learned a lesson from his recent suspension and is ready to serve the team as captain as we get into our next fixture this weekend,” the Eagles vice-chairperson said.

“His suspension was meant to remind the players that no one is immune as regards to following the team’s rules after we recently struggled in our campaign mostly due to lack of discipline among our players. Now, we expect great improvement both on and off the pitch.”

Kuwali said he has welcomed the team’s decision and is ready to give his all in their next assignment.

Eagles will get into this Sunday’s fixture hoping to end their five-game winless run in the elite league, having lost four games and drawn one.

Their last league game ended goalless against Mighty Tigers. Prior to that, they lost 1-0 to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Karonga United and Ekwendeni Hammers and 3-0 to FCB Nyasa Bullets.

They were also booted out of the FDH Bank Cup 5-3 on post-match penalties by Mafco FC after regulation time ended two-all.

In the 16-team top-flight league, Eagles are 13th with 16 points from 15 games. They are up against second-placed Central Bankers, who are gunning to displace Bullets from the summit. Silver tied on 29 points with third-placed Chitipa United while Bullets are on top with 30 points.
